TOP 5 SCARIEST WOMEN.. EVER.

It's Halloweeeeeeeeen

I'm sure that's an appropriately scary into. Make sure to hold on to your (surely now damp) seat for my countdown of the TOP 5 SCARIEST WOMEN.. EVER.

I decided not to make them of any specific genre or medium as, well I don't have time as it's 11 o'clock already so I realistically have only an hours to write and post the begger before it's woefully out of date and I have to hang on for another year to give you the full force of my last minute half baked idea. True, it might be a better list if I think about and refine it between now and then, but more likely I will have forgotten all about it and it will languish forever unfinished.. So here we go.. Are we sitting uncomfortably on the edge of our seats gripping our cushions? Then I'll begin..

In no particular order..

Tubbs Tattsyrup
Right. Straight of the block, and it is a man in a dress. Oh well, plough on, Tubbs is definitely a woman even if “her insides are all wrong”. I adore the League of Gentlemen. All the characters inhabit a strange, twisted, hilarious and fantastic place and no more than Tubbs. Sweet, naïve, murderous and, in memorable scene, suckling a live pig Tubbs. Of all the other inhabitants of Royston Vasey, she would be the only one who would really haunt your nightmares, clutching the precious things of the shop to her bosom while having you burned for not being local.

Sadako Yamamura – The Ring
The Ring was one of a handful of films to genuinely scare me. The myth of a curse on a videotape is a neat idea, but the terrifying part was the, sorry if this is a spoiler, moment Sadako climbs of of the tele. Some very ingenious effects used (as I understand it, the actress was filmed going into the tv and the film was reversed to give the awkward and stiff look). The clever part was that it was completely unexpected and you are watching it on a TV at the time (or I was). The American version shows Sadako coming out of the Tele ON THE COVER OF THE DVD! I mean to say, that's like putting the statue of liberty buried in sand on the cover of Planet of the Ap.. oh yeah, they did that as well. What was I saying.

Bellatrix Lestrange.
She is pretty cool as it happens, the evilist and most unhinged of all witches. With her warped wand and evil cackle. I like a good moustache twirler and she tops all the men in that regard in the Harry Potter series. None of the rest kill with her glee and I have to admit, one of the best parts of the book was her comeuppance at the hands of Molly Weasley. The moment was slightly too quick in the film, but honestly it was a real punch the air moment for me, reading the book.

The lady who wee's herself in Threads.
Threads is genuinely terrifying, a glimpse into a future where the nuclear threat is carried out. Shown on the BBC in 1984, it begins as kitchen sink drama of a family starting out and quickly descends into an unremitting bleak, harrowing depiction of the effect of a nuclear assault. It is set in Sheffield, and, although the Sheffield of 1984 is quite different to the city I live in today, it is still recognisable and when the bombs drop and the lady wee's herself in fear, well it is pretty powerful. I would urge you not to watch it unless you are really curious as it goes from ominous to dark to bleak to dear god can we turn this off now. Course, it was peak time entertainment back in 1984, like x factor or something*.

It's worth checking out her imdb entry. What a career she went on to have.

*Probably not

The end of [Rec]
Many people haven't seen [Rec] and to be honest, that's a real shame as it's a brilliant film. It's a Spanish made reality horror/zombie/something else, and what happens at the end is truly special. On that note, I won't say any more, as if you've seen it, you'll know what I mean, and if you haven't, well I've either sold it to you, or you will never watch it. Which will be for the best. There is another American remake, I haven't see it but I guess they put the ending on the DVD cover of that as well.

So that's my list. Don't just sit there ranting at the screen about the obvious ladies I've missed, get some comments on. Sweet Nightmares.. Mwahahaha...
